Digital images of the United States (examples below) are available from the Earth Resources Observation System
(EROS)
Data Center, including satellite Advanced Very-High Resolution
Radiometer
(AVHRR)
useful for tracking vegetation growth on a regional basis.
The EROS Data Center also serves as the central ordering agency within the Federal Government for
Land Satellite
(LANDSAT)
Thematic Mapper
(TM)
and
Multispectral Scanner
(MSS)
digital data.
AVHRR imagery is collected in 5 channels measuring visible, near infrared, and thermal infrared radiation. Applications include cloud temperatures, sea-surface temperature, land temperature and vegetation index.
